Hello everyone, my name is Lex. For the past 16 years I have been in veterinary medicine as a veterinary nurse near Austin, TX. While it was a rewarding career that I poured lots of love into I wanted a change in my life. I will always miss my furry, four-legged patients and the wonderful people who owned them. I am also forever grateful for the knowledge, confidence, and strength that I developed over the many years alongside the strong female leaders of my veterinary hospital.   

Searching for my next chapter I turned my sights towards the mountains to get away from the Texas heat, and we landed in charming little Howard, Colorado in late 2021. After being here for less than a month I heard about the need for EMTs in the area, so I signed myself up. Now, less than a year later, I am a certified EMT with Arkansas Valley Ambulance District, and a short time ago I was entrusted with the role of AVAD’s Ambulance District Manager. As I continue learning as much as I can, I can’t help but realize how fortunate I am to have such selfless, intelligent, and compassionate people as my mentors in this new career. This is a fantastic organization that has a lot of heart, and I look forward to serving this new community we are proud to now be a part of.

When I’m not working, I like to spend time at home with my partner, Emily, and our dog, Aero. Our favorite thing to do is experiment with new recipes in the kitchen. Aero watches from her comfy bed while we go all out with the meals we create (don’t worry, Aero usually gets a little taste as long as it’s safe). Eventually, we hope to expand our family with more rescue dogs, some chickens and maybe even a goat or two. Colorado life is good!
